Diabetes & Diabesity

Some of you have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and are on drugs to control elevated blood sugar. Many more, about 50% of the population, have no obvious symptoms but lab testing shows the evidence of high cholesterol and triglycerides, and body composition analysis shows higher than 25% fat, and high blood glucose and insulin levels when tested after fasting and 2 hours post meal. This phenomenon is labeled “Diabesity.” In reality, this, like all other diseases, exist in a continuum between optimal and disease.

Diabesity is a growing epidemic, which is the leading cause of chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, soft tissue damage, neuropathy, cancer and increased obesity. Not everybody with Diabesity will develop diabetes, even so, you can still get all the symptoms of a person with diabetes: constant hunger, burning neuropathy, aches and stiffness of muscles and tendons, vascular blockages, etc.

The good news is that it is virtually 100% correctable if the causes are properly addressed. The cause of Diabesity and Diabetes are a poor diet, unhealthy life style choices and the inability to eliminate toxins. By correcting your diet to exclude (or significantly reduce) refined sugars, excessive carbohydrates, alcohol, packaged-foods, and man made additives AND by eating a broad range of vegetables, fruits (in moderation), nuts, seeds, legumes and grains, you will lower blood insulin levels and inflammation. If you need animal protein make sure that you buy your meat from sources that do not use antibiotics, that are free range, and that give animals optimal diets without animal food additions and refined carbohydrates.

The lifestyle changes that aid your metabolism to function optimally include exercising daily, proper sleep, and learning relaxation techniques (for daily use and for stressful situations). Finally, foster companionship and community around you to motivate and inspire you to follow these life changes. We often hear from people who say that they seem to be following this program in isolation-as none of their friends and peers understand how they can follow such a rigorous diet. Our advice is that they educate the people around them, let them taste healthy food that is also delicious so they won’t think of healthy food as being a grueling punishment. We also encourage them to watch movies such as Food Matters, Forks over Knives, PlanEat, Supersize Me, etc. which might help them make the connection between their many afflictions (from joint pains to weigh gain and sluggishness) and what is going into their bodies through their mouths! Together, we can slowly create a movement and shift our definitions of treats and good food.

Toxins are land mines that make the terrain of optimal metabolism tough to achieve. We can test for and show you how to eliminate toxins from your body. Providing your body with colorful foods from the plant kingdom, will always enable detoxification. Drinking enough water throughout the day, bowel elimination twice daily, hot-sauna or soaks with Magnesium sulfate (Epsom salts), exercise, and sweating through Infrared Saunaa are also good ways to detoxify. Calming the mind in daily practice of meditation or prayer or any focused creative activity that you love will also work to help remove toxic thoughts that prevent healing.
