Soft Tissue & Sports Injuries

The heavy emphasis on sports in schools and the popularity of sports in our culture has unfortunately led to an increase in the numbers of tendon, ligament and fascial as well as bone and joint injuries.

Steroid shots can temporarily mask pain, however, long term it can lead to bone loss and rupture of tendons and muscle tears. Similarly, anti-inflammatory drugs may decrease inflammation, but in many studies, masking pain can lead to worsening of injuries.

At PALM, we utilize light energy from Low Level Lasers to heal soft tissue and cartilage. Our laser heads are the size of an average palm of the hand with 180 lights. These LED lights are in two specific bands or wave-lengths on the electromagnetic spectrum in the red and infra-red regions. The light source is placed in contact with the skin allowing the photon energy to penetrate tissue, where it interacts with various intracellular bio-molecules resulting in the normalization of cellular components. This also enhances the body’s natural healing processes. The laser has been shown to alter growth factors that then promote growth of tissue and healing; the laser alters interleukins and cytokines that manage the inflammatory response and also alter molecules that lead to the growth a of new blood supply to the affected area.

Laser Therapy is a powerful adjunct to healing soft tissue and joints.

Nutrition and the appropriate use of supplements to allow the laser to do its job well is also part of what we do to heal these injured sites. Repair enzymes with co-factors to drive the cell’s energy making cycle, proteases, curcumin, MSM, hyaluronic acid and herbal products to help pain are some of the supplements we utilize. We often work with an orthopedic surgeon or chiropractor to facilitate healing.
