Lunch and Learn: The Power of Perspective

2019-03-26T15:19:34-05:00

We say that seeing is believing, but our perceptions can be distorted, and our thoughts can further amplify these distortions. Research from the Center for Well-Being at Washington University has shown that the meaning and perspective we develop in our lives has a profound impact on our physical and mental health. In this Lunch and Learn, Dr. Nigel Lester will explore the power of developing healthy perspectives and provide a practical guide to perceiving, reframing, and transcending problems to bring creative solutions to our everyday lives.

This workshop will explore themes related to effective communication between parents and their children. Kevin Cloninger will discuss why talking with a child or teen can be so difficult, due to a host of different developmental factors. For example, we will look at how brain development in childhood and adolescence influences listening, speech, and perception, and how parents can take this into account in order to communicate effectively with their children. Afterwards, we will discuss some practical strategies to help improve empathy and communication. Coffee, tea, and water will be provided. $25 for members and non-members. Register through our class schedule on the PALM app. Non-members may call 314-801-8898 option 2 to sign up. Proceeds from the workshop will go to support Anthropedia’s work in the community.
