Have you ever noticed that the beauty of an image is often in its smallest, almost unnoticeable details? In our upcoming art class, you’ll have the opportunity to find those little details and extrapolate them into a piece of your making. Join instructor and artist Maria Ojascastro for an art class in which you’ll learn how to zoom into a snippet of an image and create your own unique work of art out of it using colored pencils on black paper.

Find out moreInhale, exhale. Sounds simple, right? If your chest rises and falls with your breath, there’s actually a better way to breathe: with your diaphragm. Diaphragmatic breathing increases how much oxygen gets into your blood, reduces blood pressure and heart rate, helps you relax, and improves muscle function during exercise to prevent injury and strain. Join Ashley Kumar, physical therapist and personal trainer, for an interactive workshop in the Oak Room to learn proper diaphragmatic breathing techniques that you can incorporate into your daily life and workouts.
Find out moreAll PALM members are invited to schedule a CIMT test on Saturday, October 28. The Carotid Intima Media Thickness (CIMT) test is a non-invasive diagnostic test used for the detection of early cardiovascular disease. With this test you will receive the “age” of your arteries to help you understand your risk of cardiovascular disease, including heart attack or stroke. Early detection is key, and thickness of the carotid arteries can be gauged using CIMT long before you become symptomatic. This allows you to develop a plan for prevention or treatment with your doctor and follow your improvement over time. The CIMT Test consists of an ultrasound of your neck to check for plaque buildup in your carotid arteries. It is a safe and painless test that only takes 10-15 minutes with a certified technician.
Find out moreTai Chi is a Chinese martial-arts practice focused on movement and meditation that is enjoyed around the world by people of all ages. Its benefits include improved balance and strength, increased energy, and better mood and sleep quality. Our personal trainer Brent Haddock spent a year studying Tai Chi at the Kunyu Shan Kung Fu Academy in China, and he’s bringing his expertise to PALM. In this class, Brent will lead you through 15-20 minutes of qigong (coordinated movements with breathing and meditation) to cultivate your qi, or your energy. Then, you’ll spend the remainder of the class learning the basic form and movements of Tai Chi, which is a more specific form of qigong that focuses on balance, joint strength, and mobility.
