The Future of Medicine is Functional Medicine

SUMMARY

Dr. Scott Jamison addresses the current increase of functional medicine in conventional medicine practices. “More and more programs are starting to bring functional medicine into their training to augment traditional medicine. Functional medicine has gone from being viewed as an outsider medical practice to an approach that is increasingly mainstream. Patients are really driving this: people want this kind of model. They want to be partners in their health. They want to have more time. They want to explore things, instead of, ‘Here’s your diagnosis, and here’s a pill.’ The functional medicine model allows people to find that. Together, patients and physicians are looking at the whole body and all of its biologic systems. The idea is to remove what causes imbalance and provide what creates balance. Making little changes in one system can have big impact on the rest of the body and on the patient’s overall well-being.”

Using Organization to Relieve Stress

SUMMARY

Tracy Klebe explains how organizing and de-cluttering can help relieve stress when everything else feels out of control. “Along with all the other aspects of health and well-being — exercising, eating right, managing your stress — staying organized and putting your things in order can help improve your general well-being.”

The Necessity of Resilience

Seminar: Building Mental Resilience for a Challenging Future

SUMMARY

Dr. Nigel Lester emphasizes the need to build resilience in order to face life’s challenges. “We live in a time where it’s quite clear that the mental stress upon us is greater than it has ever been. However, we have never lost sight of the fact that the mind and body are one unit and mental resilience is key. Never have our children been so stretched and so challenged, with conflict and stress day after day. But mental resilience is something we can build, just as we can build physical resilience.”
