October 10 – Salsa

October 17 – Rumba

Classes will cover partnering skills, foundational steps and patterns, basic footwork, Cuban hip motion, and unique character, rhythm, and style. Come with or without a partner. Rotating partners is encouraged, as it significantly increases learning and retention. These classes are appropriate for all levels: no prior dance experience necessary. Leather or felt-soled shoes are best. No high heels, please, to protect the floor. Class size is limited to 24 people.

$22 per class, per person. For members and their guests. Register through the class schedule on the PALM app or by emailing Amanda Chesnutt directly at achesnutt@palmhealth.com. Non-members may sign up if they are the guest or partner of a member. Class may be canceled if fewer than five people are enrolled.

Merengue originated in the Dominican Republic and is lively, fun, and easy to learn. Its roots are both African and European (French), and it is ideally suited for social merriment. This dance can be done in group form or with a partner.

Salsa dance and music has its roots in Cuba with both Spanish and African influences. It is sassy and a bit spicy, like the food, and can also be danced in a group or with a partner.

Rumba experienced most of its growth and development in Cuba, but has roots in the Caribbean and throughout Latin America with both Spanish and African influences. It is one of the slower Latin dances, with more of a sensual expression and character.
