Social Dance Fundamentals

With holiday parties just around the corner, get comfortable on the dance floor! This two-session social dance workshop series, Rhythm and Moves, is designed to build confidence and creativity so you can dance with a partner to any kind of music. No experience is necessary. Leather or felt-soled shoes are recommended. No high heels, please, to protect the beautiful Oak Room wood floor.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release techniques can be a helpful addition to a regular exercise regime to help improve mobility, prevent injury, release tension, and aid in muscle recovery after exercise or movement. In this practical session with Heather Walther, PT, participants will learn self-myofascial release techniques from head to toe. Please wear comfortable clothing to move around. Participants must have the ability to get up and down from the exercise mat.

Succulent Planting

Learn how to plant and care for a succulent arrangement with Laura Dooley of LoKey Designs. Laura will take participants through the step-by-step process of choosing a succulent, handling and planting it, decorating it with natural materials, and watering it. Participants will receive one succulent or cactus of their choosing (additional plants may be purchased for $5 each), a container, planting materials, care instructions to take home, and light refreshments and treats from Sugaree Bakery Company.

In this art workshop, participants will learn basic proportions for drawing a portrait and then will paint and collage with Art for Well-Being instructor, Maria Ojascastro, taking inspiration from Daniel Lismore, sculptor, designer, and author of Be Yourself, Everyone Else is Already Taken. All materials will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own found objects (stray earrings, interesting buttons, small coins etc.). Coffee, kombucha, tea, and wine will be available, along with light snacks and refreshments. $48 per person, for members and their guests.

Sip ‘n Linoleum Block Print

Come create artwork that can be shared with others! In this art workshop, Art for Well-Being instructor Maria Ojascastro will teach participants to design and carve their own linoleum block prints to create handmade greeting cards. Participants will connect emotion with creativity to express gratitude, sympathy, friendship, and more through artistically crafted hand-printed images.

Beginners as well as experienced artists are invited to take inspiration from nature in this art workshop. To get warmed up, you will reference the work of New Yorker artist, Tom Gauld. Our Art for Well-Being instructor, Maria Ojascastro, will guide you as you illustrate your own lush garden. The workshop will gather on the outdoor patio, weather permitting, to nurture your creativity. Coffee, kombucha, tea, and wine will be available, along with some light snacks and refreshments.

Sip ‘n Paint: Encaustic Collage

Art for Well-Being instructor Maria Ojascastro will teach participants how to use encaustic wax and collage materials to explore objects that trigger memories or represent a glimpse of their life story. All materials will be provided, but participants are invited to bring photocopies of meaningful objects from their home, office, or life. Coffee, kombucha, tea, and wine will be available, along with some light snacks and refreshments.

Junior Paint and Plant Workshop

In this workshop, Angela Adler from SeedGeeks will lead a painting and planting workshop for children. Each child will receive a clay pot to paint and decorate, as well as their choice of SeedGeeks seeds to plant. The seed selection will include a range of heirloom, untreated, and open-pollinated seeds, including flowers such as lavender, chamomile, and sunflower, herbs such as chives, basil, and dill, and vegetables such as tomato, rainbow swiss chard, and cucumber.

In this art workshop, participants will experiment with acrylic paint, modeling paste, and other additives to bring subtle texture to the painting they create.
